The Three Test Types in Oases
- Online Tests
- Graded Answer Key Tests
- Recorded Tests
A. Online Tests
Questions & Answers online
- The Achieve test is a test where Oases has programmed the test and it can be set to be taken by the student online and is graded by Oases when submitted.
- Program your own questions, answer options and graphics for fully online tests.
Answers online via Virtual Bubble Sheet
- The SAT & ACT practice tests have also been programmed by Oases and the student can enter the answers online via a virtual bubble sheet but working from a pdf or paper test. Then the answers the student gave are put into the student record by Oases and scored.
- Program your own test to be answered into a virtual bubble sheet but the questions are provided to the student using a method outside Oases.
B. Graded Answer Key tests programmed/entered into Oases by the user.
- An Answer Key test is one where the answers are programmed into Oases by you, the user. Then the answers the student gave are manually added to the student record and Oases grades/scores the test.
- The Achieve Test and SAT & ACT tests can also be used this way.
- Program your own Answer Key test to be graded by Oases.
C. Recorded Test - Manual Test names for recording test results.
- This is a score that is entered after a test is graded outside of Oases, either by a person or an optical reader. The results are loaded for information and reporting only and any learning plan needs to be created manually.
The Achieve Test
The Achieve test is an online question and answer test provided by Oases and they are in your database, set up for you. There is a pre test and a post test and Oases will compare results for gains. If you would like Achieve tests and do not see them in the student test page make sure they are not set to hidden on the Setup > Students > Tests page. There are fees associated with using Achieve.

Add Your Own Test
Whether your test is to be an Answer Key test or a Recorded test, the first step is to create the test and name it. Don't add the grade or pre, interim or post status to the name.
1. In the main menu select: Setup > Students > Tests.
2. To create a new test, simply click the New Test button top right.
3. Enter the name of the test without grade or pre/post status. Select Yes if it will be an Answer Key Test where you will enter the student answers in an Answer Key for grading and No if you are naming a test for recording results only.
To continue setting up Recorded Results Tests jump to the next section.
4. For Answer Key Tests press Create Test.
5. The first Answer Key page will open with your test name top left.
6. Complete the fields as required:
- Group Name - Complete only if this test is a section of a sectional test.
- Pre/Interim/Post - Select if this is a pre, interim or post test.
- Select the Grade - Select U if to be used for multiple grades.
When you select the final item a box will appear for the number of questions. Add the number of questions and Save.
7. Your first page will open. If empty select Pre, Interim or Post and the grade and the Answer Key grid will open.
8. In the answer column add the multiple choice answer as a letter. Enter a given answer with a ~ in front. If there is a choice of correct answer add all correct options. For example: ~0.5~.5~1/2
9. In Benchmark add the objective of the question.
10. In Subskill add a subskill if there is one.
11. Press Save when ready.
12. Your new test will drop into the list in Expanded Mode allowing you to see the test name on the left and the first Nested Test on the row below.
13. There is a black triangle in the Expand/Delete column that will allow you to expand this section next time you come to this area.
14. To add another test to the nest (the next grade or an interim or post test for the existing grade):
- Press the green pencil for a new Answer Key page, or
- Press Copy icon to make a copy of your existing test if the answers and benchmarks are identical. If standards have been assigned for a pre test these too can be copied to an interim test if the test is identical as automatic learning plans can be made from interim tests.
15. When a new test is entered or existing test copied it will be listed in the nest under the test name.
Note: Pre and post tests where you require Oases to compare test gains must be set up this way so that the pre and post sit under the same test name when you press the black triangle as shown above.
Tests created with their own row and do not expand using the black triangle into a list of tests, will not compare for the test gains report. Again, to compare test gains the pre and the post must be nested under one main test name.
16. Continue until all tests are loaded.
Jump to Add Questions for a fully online test.
Algorithms
17. An answer key test must not have any algorithms, matrices or programming to produce its score. It must have a set number of questions and the student must be required to complete all the questions and the score must be given as a basic number correct out of a maximum possible, from which Oases calculates the score and a percentage. If you do add a test that normally requires an Algorithm the report will not produce the scaled scores for the front page. The individual section pages will detail correct information.
Recorded Test Setup
18. Name your test and set Answer Key Test to No and Create Test.
19. The test will drop into the list. Press the name to set the area and score method.
20. Select the area and score method or create your own new ones. Instructions in next section.
Set up Your Own Test Areas
21. Press on Areas at the top of the page to see if any of the default Area lists meet your needs.
22. If Standard Areas 1 or 2 do not meet your needs create your own list by clicking on New Area.
23. Name your new Area and Save.
24. Select your new Area from the drop down list and use the plus sign to add and then name selections.
25. Save when finished.
26. Press on the test in the test list and assign your areas.
Test Score for Recorded Tests
27. There are a few default Scores groups in Oases.
You can choose from:
- Numeric
- Levels
- Pass/Fail
- Quartiles
or program your own scoring method.
Numeric - You will add a numeric score when loading student test results.
Levels - You will select the level required when loading student test results.
Pass/Fail - You will select Pass or Fail when loading student test results.
Quartiles - You will select the Quartile when loading student test results.
Program your own Test Scores Method
28. Click on Scores top right.
29. Press New Score and name and save your Scores group name.
30. Select your new Scores group from the drop down list and use the plus sign to add and then name selections.
31. Open your test from the list and allocate your new Scores score.
32. Your test is now ready to be used on the student test page in the student record.
Add Questions & Graphics for Online Tests
33. If a test is set as an Online test you can add questions and graphics to create a fully online multiple choice test.
- This applies only to multiple choice tests (no given answers)
- This applies to single section tests only (no grouped tests)
34. On the test list mark your test as Online by changing the slider from No to on.
35. This will then change to VBS to indicate this test can now be used as an online Virtual Bubble Sheet. You will send the questions to the student using a method outside Oases but the student can mark their answers into an online bubble sheet that they submit when finished and Oases grades.
36. To move your test to a fully online version, press on the test name to open the answer key grid. If the test has been marked as online you can now press on the slider to Include Questions Online.
37. This will present black arrows to the left of your question numbers. Press on the first black arrow to expand the section.
38. In this area you can:
- Define the number of multiple choice answers
- Set the question text (optional if question is in your graphic)
- Define multiple choice options
- Add a graphic (optional if you have written a question)
- Add instructions or preamble text (optional)
39. Question, Graphic or both? You must have either a question or a graphic, but you can have both as shown above.
In the example below the question is in the graphic so the question text is not required.
In this example there is no graphic so the question text must be present.
40. When the test is taken online the questions and possible answers are presented as follows:
Presentation
41. In the list the slider now says Q&A.

Interim Test Behavior
42. An interim test will behave like a pre test for learning plan creation. If standards area assigned a targeted learning plan may be created from an interim test. Simply check the interim test in the student's test list and generate learning plan. If a learning plan already exists from the pre test this will need to be deleted. Print it first so it auto-saves to the student document area for your records.
43. An interim test will behave like a post test for reporting purposes and display in post test columns, but will be superceded by an actual post test when taken.
For example, if a student has a pre test and interim test of the same test, test gains will be measured between the pre and interim results. If the student then takes a post test the interim test will be ignored and gains will be measured between the pre test and the post test.
