Overview
The Instructional Focus Codes are 2 letter codes that are present in the session for logging student time to allow you to report on how much instructional time has been spent on a particular item and thereby use generic session types.
Non instructional codes may be added to indicate time to be billed that was not instructional. You may change or add to these codes or just have one generic code to log time.

The Default Instructional Focus Codes
The default Instructional Focus codes in Oases are:
- LA (Language Arts)
- MA (Math)
- SS (Social Studies)
- SC (Science)
- NS (No Show)
Instructional Focus Code Requirements
1. If you will be using the Achieve test you may not remove, reorder or edit the LA or MA code as this will prevent the Achieve Test from working.
2. You must have at least 1 Instructional Focus Code (IF). So if you will not be using the Achieve Tests and don't require codes enter a code of TU for tutoring.
3. IF codes must be 2 characters only.
4. You may have up to 9 IF codes to display in your session.
What IF Codes Do
5. Instructional Focus codes are used in a session to record the student time in that session. If the session was all Math the student time will be allocated to MA, if the session was split between Math and Science the time too can be split in the session.
6. This allows the use of more generic session types as an Instructional Focus report can be created in Custom Reports to report exactly how the student time was allocated between subjects.
7. The Instructional Focus code will be selected (checked off) in the Student Record to denote that time may be stored under a certain subject. Oases will automatically place session time under the first IF checked off in a student record.
8. Instructional Focus codes are also used on Learning Plans as a subject code under which goals are loaded and the default codes are used by Common Core and states to code standards and goals. Removing the default IF codes will prevent access to standards and goals. You may load your own standards and goals for your own IF codes. For example, if you create an IF code of OS for Organizational Skills you may create or import OS goals.
